I'm a product and business professional with a focus on the intersection of climate, energy, and tech.
When I was a kid, I thought I'd grow up to fly and/or build airplanes or spacecraft. That didn't end up happening. But it did take me from my east coast roots to Stanford University and major in mechanical engineering. Fun fact: my project team in advanced thermal systems did win "I'm a rocket scientist!" t-shirts for our rocket fuel grain + nozzle designs given the thrust / fuel efficiency achieved. That's as far as I got on the 'rocket scientist' path...
Anyways, while I was studying thermodynamics and milling aluminum in the machine shop, the Cleantech 1.0 buzz in Silicon Valley was all around me. That's how I started getting more interested in energy and the environment. I then went on to do a master's degree in management science & engineering with a concentration in energy.
I started my career as a management consultant at McKinsey & Company out of the Silicon Valley office where I primarily worked with big tech and semiconductor clients. I also spent some time in oil & gas and healthcare.
After a couple years, I joined Apple in a product role. Thinking I'd be working on the next iPhone, to my surprise, I was assigned to a top secret project - what we launched as the 1st generation Apple Watch. Between the sheer complexity of the program and time spent in the details with engineering, I gained an appreciation for what it takes to develop and ship brand new products.
After the successful launch of the Apple Watch, I went on to do something very different that I would not have guessed a few years prior. I moved back east and a longtime hobby (music) plus happenstance led me to join a growing music-tech company called Kobalt Music with the mission to make the industry fair, transparent, and more financially rewarding for artists and songwriters. I could easily get behind the mission and the founder, so I signed on to help lead on strategy & business development.
With diverse business & operations experiences in tech under my belt, I went back to focusing on energy & the environment. I headed strategy & operations at Heila Technologies where we were deploying our distributed control & optimization platform to microgrids and energy systems in the US and Latin America to help end users achieve their resiliency, economic, and sustainability goals. The mission was to simplify the integration and operation of distributed energy resources (DERs) to help bring about a cleaner and more resilient energy system.
Now I am leading product development, focused on software, at Scale Microgrids where we are developing, financing, deploying, and operating microgrids and other DERs at scale.
